Twenty Three riders qualify for World Class Development Championship at the British Open Show Jumping Championships

A total of twenty-three riders have qualified for the World Class Development Programme Championship and it’s supporting competition, the World Class Development Programme Pathfinder that are being held at The British Open Show Jumping Championships in Birmingham’s LG Arena on the 7th and 8th April 2010. From seven qualifying competitions held across the country attracting over two hundred entries, the top twenty-three horse and rider combinations based on points from best their four results, will now come forward to jump in this prestigious competition, which is open to riders aged 23 years or under. In consultation between British Showjumping and Grandstand Media, who run the British Open Show Jumping Championships, it was agreed that the four riders who were equal with 28 points; Lucy Guild, William Whitaker, Nicole Pavitt and Fionn Mcsharry would qualify to compete, therefore allowing an extra combination from the stipulated number of twenty-two riders in the original rules.

Last year’s winner, Ellen Whitaker is over the age limit to defend her title, but with three other Whitakers in the final line up, including William Whitaker, who won both the Pathfinder and Championship classes in 2007, it could still be a Whitaker name on the Championship Trophy, although with the standard of young riders in this class there will be tough competition.

Tina Goosen, World Class Development Show Jumping Co-ordinator commented, “ The standard of riding throughout the qualifying series has been impressive and I believe the qualified riders, including the six World Class Development Programme riders, will make the Pathfinder and Championship classes one of the strongest competitions we have had and the outcome is no foregone conclusion.”

As part of its sponsorship of the Pathfinder and Championship classes there is a total prize fund of £3,000 with Training Vouchers worth over £4,000 being awarded to the first eight prize-winning riders, currently eligible for British Team selection.

The final twenty-three qualified riders who will compete in the Pathfinder and Championship classes at The British Open Show Jumping Championships are listed below.
